Is your sitemap telling the truth?

If you enter a sitemap address, we read that. If you enter a domain, we look for a Sitemap: line in its robots.txt first, then try /sitemap.xml. A sitemap index is followed one level down, up to 10 child sitemaps.

How many URLs the sitemap lists, how many carry a lastmod date and whether those dates are valid, duplicate URLs, malformed URLs and URLs on another host, child sitemaps that fail to load, and whether the sitemap is declared in robots.txt. Then it asks a sample of up to 20 listed pages for their status.
